What to do

When visiting a Gurdwara (Sikh temple), you should show respect by covering your head, removing your shoes, and washing your hands. You should also be mindful and avoid pointing your feet towards the Guru Granth Sahib (scripture of Sikhism).

Cover your head: Wear a scarf, handkerchief, or turban.

Remove your shoes: Place your shoes in a rack near the entrance.

Wash your hands: Wash your hands before entering the gurdwara and before eating.

Bow to the Guru Granth Sahib: Walk to the front of the Guru Granth Sahib and bow. Gently kneel and lower your forehead to the ground. (see video below).

Sit quietly on the floor with your legs crossed, and face towards Guru Granth. Men and women sit separately.

Participate in langar (meal): Enjoy the vegetarian meal prepared before and after the ceremony.
